Don Proia, Senior Account Executive at Miller's, becomes new Board Member at the Capital Chapter of International Facility Management Association (CCIFMA). Read more to learn about Don's new position term starting in July and how he helps out at CCIFMA.

The International Facility Management Association (IFMA), supports the largest community of facility management professionals. It dedicates itself to conducting research, providing educational programs and assisting facility managers in developing strategies for their responsibilities. The CCIFMA has over 900 members and offers current industry information specific to the Washington area.

Don first entered the office supplies industry as a teenager working in his father's office supply store. At the age of 18, he began managing the company. Continuing to grow in the industry, he joined Miller's Supplies at Work as a Senior Account Executive.

We asked Don questions about his role at Miller's and CCIFMA and he was kind enough to share these answers with us:

Q: Why did you choose to join CCIFMA? What made it stand out for you?

A: I was invited to join IFMA by a customer who was involved. She helped introduce me to a lot of other members. I liked the ability to interact and build relationships with members who were facility management professionals.

Q: Can you think of a moment you thought that being part of CCIFMA contributes to your position at Miller's?

A: Probably the best story is the introduction to one of my largest customers. She had recently moved here from California, where she was the Chapter President of IFMA. She asked a member for a recommendation and he told her about me and Miller's. I had them as a prospect for several years, but was unable to get an appointment with her predecessor. IFMA was the ticket.

Q: What values do you believe you bring to the members at CCIFMA?

A: I like to bring creative ideas to help attract new members. Also, I have designed a new member brochure and a new orientation presentation.

Q: Why would a facilities professional join an association?

A: There are plenty of benefits that are available through an association. It helps someone network and grow as a professional. Or gain leadership opportunities, IFMA credentials, educational opportunities and get involved at conferences.

Outside of work and association activities, Don enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren, fixing things, and doing carpentry.
