There’s a buzz during your morning commute, a refreshed focus on new tasks and a chill in the air as summer slips away. Bright yellow buses return to highways and welcome back-to-school season. During this season, Miller’s Supplies at Work takes pride in supporting the local community by donating supplies to students in need. This blog post shares three opportunities we were grateful to be a part of to help our next generation of leaders.
1) 800+ Backpacks Donated to Local Schools
One of the most important school supplies is a backpack. It holds all other smaller supplies for students to carry from class to class. Every year Miller's Supplies at Work has fun supporting local schools. This year we donated 160 backpacks to Craigsville Elementary School and 700 to Hybla Valley Elementary School. We stuff backpacks with supplies such as scissors, crayons, glue sticks, pencils, paper, notebooks and more. Staff from Warehouse, Customer Service, Accounting, Operations, Sales and Human Resources departments pack and deliver backpacks together. See us in action and hear from our staff in the video above.
2) Students Get School Supplies at S.O.M.E
Returning to school without enough supplies could prevent students from performing their best. Having school supplies can help build students confidence to start the year strong. Thanks to Eugene Spencer, a Customer Service Representative, we donated to the 2018 Back to School Drive held by So Other’s Might Eat (S.OM.E.) in Washington, DC. Approximately, 370 students in S.O.M.E.'s affordable housing for families needed help with school supplies. We donated two pocket folders, scissors, pencils, glue sticks backpacks and more. 3) American Bankers Association and Housing Up
American Bankers Association (ABA) celebrated back-to-school season with a school supply drive hosted by their interns. They were able to send a full carload of supplies to Housing Up recently. ABA employees contributed and received support from vendors such as Miller’s Supplies at Work who provided a variety of supplies. Housing Up appreciated the supplies that helps their mission to provide services to transition families from homelessness to housing.
Miller’s Supplies at Work is happy to offer a helping hand this back-to-school season in DC, MD and VA. These opportunities are only a few ways we help the local community on a regular basis. Returning to school with style and confidence is important to having a great school year. Don't forget to check out the video to hear from our staff and see us take action to help our community.
